Health and Fitness: 5 Quick Tips

My New Year’s resolution to get lean and trim is well and truly broken thanks to takeaway food and a lack of will power. It’s also a costly diet, fast food isn’t cheap. I’m losing pounds as well as gaining them. My vows to get fit and trim always start and end the same way. My promise to burn off my spare tire spurns me to start running everyday, well, for around a week anyway. Then I start making excuses like, ‘Oh it’s raining’, or ‘I had a really bad day at work so I deserve to relax and gorge on Wispas and Hula Hoops’. Getting fit isn’t easy. If you’re looking for easy ways to shed a few pounds then here are a few quick tips.

  1. Set targets

Setting both short-term and long-term goals are critical in in achieving your fitness goals but it’s easy to stray from your set targets; so why not  reward yourself when you meet them? Treating yourself every month you stick to your routine is a good way to stay focused and resilient.Treat yourself to  new piece of clothing,  visit a health  spa or have a nice meal out.

  1. Be resourceful

This doesn’t mean buying bags of junk food tying them to both ends of a large stick and bench pressing it, perspiring profusely until you pass out,  then wake up and then comfort eat the junk food to deal with your traumatic experince. Grab a couple of tins of beans from the cupboard and do a few sets of bicep curls. Anything can be used as a substitute gym!

  1. Enlist an exercise buddy

Having a friend to exercise could be the motivation you on those days when you really don’t feel like exercising. Working out in a pair is a good way to improve technique with gym equipment, receiving fresh input on your fitness regime could be missing link you’ve needed.

  1. Keep it fresh

Start a new activity every month to avoid boredom. Treadmills and cross trainers are great ways to improve fitness, but they can also become tedious. Look on the internet for local hiking or biking groups. Or simply try a new piece of equipment at the gym. Keeping your exercising regime fresh and exciting is key to you achieving your fitness goals.

  1. Don’t overdo it

Over exercising can lead to burnout and injury. Plan periods of rest on your exercise schedule. Relaxing in front of the TV can be a good way to recuperate. If you feel a twinge in a muscle or your body just aches, it may be worth sitting out a day’s exercise. Being injured for a considerable amount of time will damage  your programme exercise every other day.
